The three stages of a redesign
A website redesign has three stages: Discover, Deliver, and Launch.
-
Discover
- Research
- Audit
- Workshops
-
Deliver
- Content
- Design
- Develop
-
Launch
- Test
- Learn
- Iterate
Each stage builds on the last, so I recommend working through them in order. But a redesign is rarely a straight line. It's messy by nature. Embrace that rather than fight it.

01
Discover
Discover is the strategy stage. It’s about understanding what problem you’re solving, for who, and how you’ll know if it worked. Then turning that into a plan.

Now’s also the time to think about change management. A new website usually means new ways of working, and it’s far easier to bring people along from the start than to win them over at the end.
